3 Common mistakes made when regularly cleaning your Amtico flooring…

• Using a steam mop to clean away daily dirt>

Don’t get me wrong, steam mops are good when used on the right floor surface. Unfortunately though, steam breaks down the protective seal on your Amtico floor. Over time and regular use, you will start to see the overall appearance dramatically drop.

• Not ever having the protective seal re-applied> 

Any type of flooring material, requires some sort of maintenance. How often a top up sealer is required, depends on where your floor is situated. ‘I know, I know’ I can hear you say it already “my floor needs to be sealed more than once?!” Well yes it does throughout its life span, but it really isn’t a big upheaval as you think. Our aim is to make your experience with us hassle free and you will be able to walk on it in no time.

• Products that are NOT safe for the protective seal and break down the glue >

The thing is, most people assume that general cleaning products can be used on the regular up keep of your flooring. Even though these can do the job that is intended, the glue that holds your floor together can be damaged. Along with the protective seal. Why? Some contain abrasives that scratch away the seal at a micron level. While others contain lemon or orange which is acidic. This starts to break the seal down over a period of time. Mopping your Amtico floor with a traditional mop and bucket system, will leave the surface too wet. Overtime, this is aiding contact time for chemicals to break down the glued joints.

These methods apply to both floor types (Amtico floor or Karndean floor cleaning,) They are critical to the life span.

• Not using house hold products, as these can damage the protective seal of your Amtico
• Dust mop or sweep very frequently, as this will remove as much dry soil as possible
• Damp mop with a flat mop system. Not wet mop with a traditional mop and bucket, as you are just flooding the surface and damaging the glued joints.
