5 Forgotten Things in Your Home You Need to Clean
Are you a proud home owner? Do you enjoy the satisfaction of keeping your home clean and tidy? You need to read this article because despite your best efforts, there are 5 things in your home you’ve been forgetting to clean, and some could be making you sick.
Let’s take a look at what they are, shall we?
Your TV Remote
One of the most commonly forgotten items in your home, when it comes to cleaning, is the TV remote. This is an item you probably use at least once a day, except for when you lose it down the side of the sofa or the dog runs off with it!
Your TV remote is the single, dirtiest item in your home and is a breading ground for contagious germs and viruses. You come into contact with it daily, it gets dropped on the floor, it is used with sticky fingers, sneezed on, coughed on, and possibly even licked by the dog. The worst thing is, most people never clean their remote controls and certainly don’t make an effort to wipe them over on a regular basis.
All it takes it a thorough wipe with an antibacterial wipe – it couldn’t be simpler! But cleaning your remote control on a weekly basis can make all the difference. Not just to the hygiene of your home, but also to the health of your family.
Get Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned
When it comes to cleaning the carpets in your home, vacuuming simply does not cut it. It is important you get your carpets professionally cleaned every 12 to 24 months.Professional carpet cleaners are the best way to maintain your carpets. For instance, to a high standard and to protect your health.
However, if you have pets in your home you should get your carpets steamed every four to six weeks. Although that sounds like a lot, it is the best way to keep your carpets clean and reduce allergens in your home. Do not attempt to clean your carpets yourself. This can damage them if you don’t know what you’re doing.
In between carpet cleaning appointments, ensure you are vacuuming your carpet at least once a week. This is the easiest way to keep your carpets free from debris, dirt, and dust.
Reduce Pest Hideouts
Walking into your living space, it may be that people are impressed with the cleanliness of your rooms. However, many of us simply clean the tops and fronts of our furniture items. Giving little thought to what lies underneath or behind them.
In the dark corners behind your furniture there are neglected, dusty, and dirty areas that are ideal breeding grounds for pests. Such as spiders, mice, and ants. To reduce this problem and control the pest population in your home, it is important to clean behind your furniture. Along with, under your bed and in every nook and cranny around your home.
When it comes to cleaning, ‘out of sight, out of mind’ is no longer relevant. Trust me when I say, knowing your home is completely clean will help you sleep and breathe far more easily.
Keep Your Drains Clean and Clear
Drains are another area of the home that is commonly forgotten about. That is, until there is a problem! Keeping your drains clean and clear of blockages can help prevent expensive problems. Such as flooding, bad odours, slow running drains, and broken pipes.
All it takes is a kettle of hot water poured slowly down the drain at the end of every day. This will help flush out any blockages, oil, and grime. Improving the flow efficiency of your drains. You can keep your drains smelling fresh, by adding a drop or two of essential oils to the water before pouring.
Clean Window Frames (inside and out)
It’s an unavoidable fact that our window frames get caked in dust, dirt, and spiders’ webs. However, they are often an area of the home people forget to clean regularly. The frames of your windows – especially sash windows – are a great attraction to dust and dirt. So, it’s important you thoroughly wipe and clean your window frames with a clean microfibre cloth. On a regular basis! Don’t forget to clean the outside, too!
It’s a simple job but is one of the best ways for maintaining your window frames and keeping your home clean.
