Does steam cleaning carpets, over wet office carpet tiles?
When steam cleaning impervious carpet tiles (or also known as Hot Water Extraction), because of the tight loop construction, high psi levels are often used. Jetted into the carpets are high volumes of water.
The rubber backing will then trap water underneath. This makes it difficult for the moisture to evaporate from them. Causing them to stay wet for some considerable amount of time.

The sub-flooring has carpet tiles glued to it. The glue that is bonding the commercial carpet tiles to your floor will end up disintegrating around the edges/seams. This causes the floor tiles to curl on the edges or corners. In the commercial cleaning industry, we call it ‘carpet tenting‘.

A rotary machine, soft pad & a chemical (micro-encapsulation) is buffed into the carpet tiles.
When this solution dries it forms a hard brittle crystal. Encapsulating the contaminations in the carpet fibers. This is so small the human eye cannot even see them. The next vacuum would suck these crystals up.
Sticky detergents would then be left in the carpet. These detergents attract soils rapidly, while abrading the fibers. The soil would also soon make the appearance drop over the course of a couple of months use.
Oxidizing agents are an additive usually contained in micro-encapsulation products. Designed for brightening up dull looking fibres. This maybe good for a one off clean perhaps.
A carpet loses 7% of colour when cleaned this way. If you are currently using cleaning maintenance on a quarterly visit, that is 21% of colour loss in just one year from cleaning this way alone. That’s not including soil abrasion and general wear and tear.
