What are diamond brushes and what do they do?

Firstly, diamond encrusted brushes are great for cleaning natural stone floors. The diamond abrasives work the same as resurfacing. They consistently work very well on riven slate textured stones like slate, limestone and quarry tiles. They vary in grits (46-180), depending on what is required on a stone floor surface.

Secondly, these brushes are great for stripping old:

In addition, a safer alternative on natural stone floors! 

These diamond encrusted brushes are of course, safe on stone floors. As well as no need for smelly, solvent based chemicals. Especially to strip multi level surface seals.

Why diamond abrasives are used to restore the appearance of stone surfaces…

Updated: 14/06/2023: Diamonds are very hard (ten on the mohs scale). As a result, this is aiding the grinding (also known as resurfacing) process, to remove damage. Also, etching, scratches or even to round off edges of tiles. From all natural stone and concrete surfaces.

In addition, 60 kg of weight is also required from a planetary piece of equipment. Without this, the process would not resurface the stone. Or even remove the concerns that are on the stone surface. In fact, it is needed for complete restoration, without the need for replacement.

Is resurfacing safe for my stone floors or wall tiles?

Completely! For instance, when grinding a surface, it is just replicating what is done in the manufacturing process when tiles are made. Microns of the stone tile surface are being removed  (dependent on which grit pattern is being used). A 60 grit is more aggressive and typically used to remove scratches or damage. 800 grit being less aggressive, which will leave the surface feeling smoother to the touch. A 1200 grit is a finer scratch pattern being used on the surface. This will not remove deep scratches, but more so used as the final stage in the marble polishing process.

Does resurfacing create a dust?

Luckily, it does not. Water is used throughout, whilst grinding a stone or concrete surface. This keeps the dust down and creates a yogurt type consistency. As a result, giving a good indication on how much the stone has been re-surfaced.

This process in itself will remove surface haze and scratches, etch marks and old sealers with mechanical abrasion.

Finally, a wet pic-up vacuum is used to extract the slurry.  After this, a visual inspection needs to be carried out, with a run of the hand over the surface. Ensuring it has been properly resurfaced. Furthermore, with no remaining damage or scratches.

Soft stones like marble and limestone contain calcium carbonate. As a result, these stones are prone to marking from acids, acidic based chemicals or soft detergents. Consequently, this will still happen if they are sealed or not. Without a doubt ” at some point” you will require the attention of a stone restoration company.

In addition to this, even a constant run of water (over a period of time), will cause a calcium based tile to be etched. Frustrating I know!

How do I prevent this?

After having a shower, use a microfiber cloth to remove any hard water deposits. With this purpose in mind, it really will save your stone, for much longer.

Why bathroom cleaners are not good for your stone wall tiles and floors

These eat away at the stone surface causing tiny pits in the stone. In other words, creating dull spots in polished tiles, known as an etched stone tile. In some cases, causing horrible looking marks like in the picture.

Can this be rectified?

It certainly can. Using various different grit diamond pads, all surface damage can be removed with resurfacing. Likewise with a polished tile, it can be re-polished to the true clarity it was before.

Three things you DO NOT want to do, when cleaning blood from your carpet

1. Use shop bought products. These will just aid in spreading the stain further.

Extracting blood from the carpet, is a much safer and easier option

An unblemished look may differ, from how another can imagine a finish to look.

In my opinion, an unblemished look is smooth and has a feeling of warmth. It looks amazing and usually (but not in all cases) has a sheen or reflective finish. Just like the clarity in polished marble. For instance, when you see that mirror like elegance that makes you smile.
